County-wide cleanup set for Saturday; 2 fires reported at same residence in 1 day

  • Fire Incidents: Two separate fires were reported at the same Charleston residence on Monday. The incidents occurred at a property on Washington Street West. Firefighters said the second fire was not considered a rekindling. Fire marshals are investigating. (WCHS)

  • Kanawha Cleanups: Free cleanups begin this Saturday, April 11, in Kanawha County. Residents can drop items off between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3298 Sissonville Drive in Charleston. Accepted items include solid waste, large appliances, air conditioners, electronics, propane or gas tanks, and up to 10 tires with a West Virginia I.D. A second cleanup is planned for April 25 in Chelyan. (WOWK)

  • Plaza Concerns: Some neighbors near the former K-Mart in Kanawha City are voicing concern after the announcement of a new travel plaza at the site of the former retailer, which has sat empty since 2020. One resident told local NBC affiliate WSAZ that he was concerned the truck stop would “depreciate our property value.” GoMart, the purchaser of the property, has begun removing asbestos from the building in preparation for its demolition.
